There are plenty of people that I know that possess great heart and the willingness to give but then they have so little to offer. There’s a phrase you probably heard of before and it goes like “You can’t give what you don’t even have”. Why is this? The answer is simple, they have not added value to themselves first. When you make yourself more valuable is not an act of selfishness. When you acquire a new knowledge, skill or gain a solid new experience for example, you not only make yourself better, but also increase your skills to help others around you. That’s why people like me are reached out to more by more people because of the value that we bring to the table.
A few years ago, around 2015, I took under my wing a person who wanted to learn what I do for a living. I didn’t realize that would be the start of my mentorship journey. I became partly responsible for the person’s growth, maturity and self improvement. I loved it, and that is why I’ve coached hundread of people personally ever since. I made a commitment to myself to the pursuit of personal growth. That’s when I started to read more books, listen to more podcasts, watcch educational videos on YouTube, find more successful people to chat with regularly, attend seminars/webinars and even subscribe to blogs that I’m interested in.
At that time, I didn’t think that this commitment I made would be one of the most important things I would do to help others succeed. I just wanted to share what I learned to as many people as I could in any way possible. But as I improved myself and evolved, I became even better that helping others improve too! The more i grew, the more I could impact other people around me.
The same will be true for you too. Keep learning and improving yourself. Take the proper steps to expand your knowledge and experience in your chosen field starting today!
Question of the day: What skills will you try to improve on starting today?
