7 TIPS ON HOW TO BE OPTIMISTIC

7 TIPS ON HOW TO BE OPTIMISTIC

I’m a person who is overly optimistic. It’s more of a gift than a curse for me. When everyone thinks like a pessimist or like a realist should be, I’m there shining with optimism that it will always work out. Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong, and for me, it’s all good. I don’t take things too hard on myself. I was brought up to be highly optimistic about things in life and it has translated in to me being more happy than what my situation suggests.

If you want to be successful, I think it’s in your best interest to create and maintain a positive attitude. An attitude of optimism, expectancy and enthusiasm creates opportunities to grow and problems to become less. Here’s the 7 tips for you to stay optimistic:

  1. Expect everything to be wonderful every single day – I always tend to begin each day and each 1st day of the week with an expectation that it will be great. That something wonderful is going to happen today even if I don’t know what it is about. Your attitude is the result of how you view the world, not with what’s happening in it. The day’s events might not be in your liking but even so, if you look for things to be positive that day, your mind will find something to complete that expectation.
  2. Never try to read minds of people and treat them as you’d want to be treated – Make the assumption that other people will treat you well. Just thinking about the weird behaviors people have, to the bad motives they have just adds misery to our lives. Assuming good intentions of everyone creates an opening to reconciling. I can’t read minds and everyone you talk to can’t be tied to a lie detector test. Ask yourself these 4 things before you tell a story about someone else: 1 Is it true? 2 is it necessary? 3 is it kind? and 4 would I want someone telling this same story about me? That’s how you treat other people the way you’d like to be treated.
  3. Don’t waste your time fighting about things you can’t change – Avoid depressing or violent conversations as much as you can. From your personal conversations to your social media feed, remove them permanently every time you see them. You are what you consume. It’s a waste of your time to argue about things such as religion and politics, nobody wins in those.. When topics like those arise, immediately bow out of it. Whether you agree or not, it’s not a useful discussion for you to have right now, not ever. Choose your battles wisely. Is it really worth fighting for if you yourself can’t inflict change? Most likely the answer to that is a resounding yes. What’s important isn’t about winning the argument for me, but me just instigating it and letting them stir the pot for me to my advantage while I work on my next plan.
  4. Focus on the task at hand, not on the results you’re looking for – Let go of your results. The top enemy of happiness is WORRY, which comes from your focus directing to events that are OUTSIDE of your control. If you do take action, there’s nothing you can do about it. Focus on the task at hand and not some fantasy that you created on what could happen. Nothing remains the same, everything is transitory. Everything too shall pass.
  5. Take control of the pleasures in your life – Always try to improve the quality of your life at least once a day. Eat something nutritious, do some sort of exercise, learn something new that’s useful. Focus on that and enjoy it. Enjoy some background noise like an audiobook, a positive podcast and relaxing music. Throw everything at home that is either not useful, not working and ugly. Remove pollutants around you that are ugly and serve no use.
  6. Always be thankful for every single day, every accomplishment that you achieve – Have an attitude of gratitude. You liked that huh? all your accomplishments deserve some sort of self recognition. No not go on to the next task without some sort of celebration, even just a pat on the back will do like “Hey man, good job on this. You deserve this.”. Same goes to everyone you meet, a verbal or virtual gift like a smile or a word of encouragement, a gesture of politeness or even a friendly nod. I always say “THANK YOU!” to everyone that does something of value to me, from the littlest of things, to the biggest ones. Every night, I have a small notebook of things I am thankful for that day, however small or big it is. Be grateful for your day, because it will never come again the same way.
  7. The best is yet to come mindset – Have an eye on the future instead of focusing on your past mistakes or the wrong that you did to someone. Yes learning from the past is important, but keep an eye on your thoughts for the future. Think about how things might be better, not worse. Let your thoughts wonder at times that you will create a better future for yourself. Believe that the best is yet to come for yourself.

Question of the day: What are you most thankful for right at this very moment? Write it down on the comments section.

It is highly common for people to be pessimistic, especially now during this pandemic. For instance, people losing jobs and trying to find new work.

At first, our mindset should be very optimistic that we can get a new job. But after a few “no’s” or “We have opted to look for other potential candidates”, you begin to wonder “what did I do for not getting the job?” And begin to be pessimistic and just want to give up.

This is based on my own experience right now. But I am just thankful that I still have my part time job and my micro business. I try to me optimistic in getting a full time job but I cannot control my thoughts of being negative.

I’m grateful for many things. But most of all, I’m grateful for the relationships I have to other people. To my family, to my wife, to my children and last but not least, to my friends.

I am grateful to my family and relatives who love me genuinely despite the fact that I haven’t been the most social/pleasant person. My health which had gone for a toss but now I have gained back. Experiences who beat me down to my knees but helped me find my own strength. My brain and thinking process that help me see things in a different perspective and helped me out of my depression.

Really grateful and blessed to my parents who inculcated the habit of reading in me and helped me enrich my life. The empathy that I have which makes me a better person. But the best thing I am grateful for is that God has given me enough sense to realise that I have so much to be grateful for.

Having the possibility to live my life like I can do at the moment. I stopped working at my old working place and started to work on some of my ideas. I still didn’t arrive at the point where I can say I finished brainstorming to get self employed yet, but I feel I am going the right way. I’m grateful to get this chance after a long time of working for somebody else and not being able to just focus on my ideas.’

Generally, yes, so long as such optimism does not turn into overoptimism!

It helps to face adversities with hope that things will become better over time and effort.

It is the famous quote of looking at a glass half full with water and treating it as full ( water +air )!

Whatever be the outcome of a situation, optimism helps one to handle the present without anxiety and worry.

However, overoptimism is when a person thinks that things will get better over time even without any effort on his/her side. Then it becomes a liability and not an asset.

February 16, 2021 Edward

It helps you to get rid of anxiety, disappointment, unhappiness from your life.

It helps you to wake-up in every day morning with a purpose, new energy, a welcoming smile and peace of mind.

Being optimist makes you feel love every moment of your life, no matter what the outcome of the event.

Learn to be detached from the outcome, so that you are not disappointed too much. When there is no expectation from the outcome, there is no anxiety and so less chances of unhappiness.

February 17, 2021 Rhona

You will not need any motivation for yourself to move. You yourself will become a motivation for others.
Work seems to be fun for you, not a burden.
You will actually learn from what you will do from a different angle.
Maybe I forgot to tell you that Optimism is directly related to your health. The More optimistic you are, the more healthy you will be.
Always remember, The whole universe will start working for an optimistic person.

February 17, 2021 Anton

By being Optimistic a person can reach very close to his potential, he can do what others deem impossible and see what is invisible to almost everyone. That is what being human means and why we are better than machines.

Entrepreneurs take risk and build successful companies because they believe in creating something that no one else can imagine. Same goes for Explorers, Inventors, adventurers they are all optimistic where a pessimist will only see danger and never take any risk even if it means a slight chance of improving their lives.

February 17, 2021 Edward

An optimistic might become pessimistic, because he is too much dependent on thought. Best is holistic approach, or a neutral approach – where we remain open to all situations and decide intelligently using our wisdom earned from experiences or whatever sources and move forward with the flow, flexibly and fearlessly.

Few are the blessed ones who are optimistic . Optimism leads to hope and hence life .

The best part of being optimistic is you forget the negativity and it does not even comes inch closer to you . Optimism teaches us to see good in every situation and enhances positivity and self encouragement leading to a happy and healthy life .

Hi,

We are always advised to remain positive in every situation of our life. So, have you wondered why?

It’s because optimism is the path to success. Being pessimist, you can never excel as your vision gets blurred with doubts, fear and many other negative things. All these, when combined together, create a negative aura which never lets you finish the assigned task. See, if you are optimist, you have a positive outlook then you’ll look solution to every problem you’ll encounter, rather then crying over it.

This life game is all about how you perceive things. Sometimes your perspective can make a lot of difference.

February 17, 2021 Nigel

Being pessimist only leads you towards depression, makes you frustrated and ultimately deviates you from your goal. So, Be Positive.

If you adopt it(being optimistic) as a way of life, it would bring constructive changes into your life and makes them happier, brighter and more successful.

Let’s look at some other reasons of How it helps if you’re optimistic?

Health: People who are optimistic are healthier.

February 17, 2021 Nigel

Wealth: It’s also proven that people with positive attitudes are usually in better financial positions than those without. Whether the positive attitude existed before or after the wealth was acquired is immaterial – what matters is the attitude is there. That being said, many a person with a positive attitude had that attitude long before they acquired material wealth. This means a positive attitude was reinforced by success.

Socialization: Having a positive attitude means more people want to be around you.

February 17, 2021 Nigel

Productivity: Having a positive attitude allows you to be more productive at work and around the house.

Active Mind: Someone with a positive attitude has an active, curious mind. They are always seeking to learn more about the world around them in addition to fulfilling their responsibilities.

To start with, as a cognitive human being, your attitude is your window to the world. Our windows get splattered by criticism from parents and teachers at an early age or stage. Our windows get smudged by ridicule from peers, when we cannot justify our actions fully. Our windows get smeared by rejection from those we least expected to. Our windows get soiled by disappointments from trusted ones. Our windows get clouded by doubt groomed by many disappointments.

The attitude you send out is the attitude you receive. The more you focus on the positive factors of your environment, the easier it will be to remain positive. A positive attitude is the outward manifestation of a mind that dwells primarily on positive matters. That is why it is wise to maintain a positive attitude as benefits of a positive attitude outweigh the negatives of a negative attitude.

February 17, 2021 Genesis

Where the person with the negative attitude thinks; I CAN’T, the person with the positive attitude thinks; I CAN. And where the person with the negative attitude dwells on; PROBLEMS, the person with the positive attitude concentrates on; SOLUTIONS. Usually, the person with the negative attitude sees; LIMITATIONS in a situation where the person with the positive attitude sees; POSSIBILITIES. The list may go on and on and on…..

People with a positive attitude are termed; Players, and these, eagerly wait for opportunities to learn something new, and to grow, both personally and professionally. Take risks and are not afraid to make mistakes. They have a positive attitude.

February 17, 2021 Jerome

Have these thoughts- there is something good in this situation, a problem is an opportunity to do something different, change is a sign of growth, a mistake is a valuable step towards growth.

Have these feelings – happy, confident, satisfied, optimistic, loving. Language- I can, will, go, make time, positively.

A POSITIVE ATTITUDE IS MORE VALUABLE THAN THE BEST KNOWN ORNAMENT. SO, STRIVE FOR A POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

February 17, 2021 Joseph Santos

Success means the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Success is not the absence of problems but the overcoming of them. It is not measured by how high we go up and how many times, but it is the measure of how many times we bounce back when we fall. Do you ever wonder why some people are more successful than others? Well, the answer is simple. They think and act differently. They keep a positive attitude towards life and accept the responsibility of both success and failures in their lives

February 17, 2021 Aldwin

It’s what lies within us that counts. The foundation of success is the attitude. When our attitude is right, every step towards our goal presents us with opportunities that we grab right away. But when we have a negative attitude, even though opportunity knocks on our door, we would fail to grab it.

If you suffer a setback on your path towards your goal; your attitude determines how you look at the failure. For a positive thinker, it feels like a stepping stone towards success. But for a negative thinker, it is a roadblock. You not only need to believe that you can never achieve success without setbacks, but also that every setback will present you with a greater opportunity.

People with a positive attitude will seem more amicable and pleasing than their counterparts. He not only inspires himself but also the people around him. They improve the productivity of a workplace and foster teamwork and positive decisions. Quite clearly, a positive attitude leads to a happy and prosperous work, home or social environment.
